I bring to you the third part of the responses to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s Talk on TED.
Here is another Nigerian.
TO ALL THE PESSIMISTS IN DIASPORA
When i read responses from brothers and sisters like Meniru Anigbo, i want to weep for all the Africans in diaspora that contribute nothing to change the face of the continent but never see good or a future that is better than the present. They use the words of their mouth and pens and even run our homelands down more than anyone else forgetting that the words of our mouth is like prophesy and the tongue is a very powerful weapon. I do not know what you heard when Madame Okanjo - Iwealla spoke but i heard a woman who admitted the despairing shortcomings of our nations but is still very optimistic about the success of the ongoing reforms despite the existing unique challenges that are typical of Nigeria.
Those of you in diaspora that sound like CNN try to keep your pessimism at bay because over 150million of us live in that country and most have no opportunity to go into diaspora with a greater percentage willing and ready to commit to changing the status quo ‘Rome was not built in a day’ and as many that cannot encourage the ones left behind to struggle on the bad roads, NEPA and water board challenges please do not compromise their confidence with your pessimism.
Remember we the people are the government and everybody in diaspora has had a corrupt relative come into government has benefited from the corruption when this happens no one hears the pessimistic whining from diaspora that is not to say that some people in diaspora are not even more progressive than those left behind on the continent- Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealla is an example.
Finally if you think it is so bad come back home and help change it so that you can bring your associates to invest in a safe environment if you cannot contribute in anyway do not run down the people who are trying even at the cost of their lives and property.
There is corruption everywhere and it is even worse in America and Europe as you all know but they own CNN etc and they do not carry it as breaking news. Also you will never hear their people running down their own government even after it took milk away from children in the 80’s (UK) or even when MEDICAIID and MEDICARE are below expectation as is presently obtained…
No offenses meant here i only wish to submit that if you cannot contribute positively or give constructive criticism leave us alone to survive in our African way we are not Europe or America and trust me we don’t ever wanna be them
