The new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri has expressed her frustration in the fight against corruption in Nigeria and opined that it is only a revolution that can clean the system and rid corruption at all levels. She revealed this in the latest edition of EFCC’s policy magazine Zero Tolerance. I know that Nigerians are angry. If you arrest somebody and release him, the impact is not there. What is the use arresting somebody and releasing him to go and enjoy his loot? The EFCC Amazon queried.

Senate Decries Arrest of Fani Kayode

The Senate yesterday denounced the arrest of Chief Femi Fani Kayode, the immediate past aviation minister and his predecessor Prof. Babalola Borishade. The duo were picked up within the premises of the National Assembly, after honouring the invitation of the Senate Committee investigating the deductions from the Aviation Intervention Funds.
At the public hearing, Fani Kayode and Babalola Borishade plaited eachother with accusations of irregular deductions, which formed the bases of their arrest by EFCC.
Senate quarried their arrest, when they were never declared wanted, fearing that if the security agencies are not checked, their Gestapo method will hamper legislative duties, as those invited by the Senate may not honour the invitation. In angry aftermath the Sentae has banned all security agencies from arresting any person within her premises.
According to Barrister Ashimole Felix, this over zealous attitude by the EFCC will tilt the scale of justice in the favour of Kayode and Borishade as they will attack the flaw in their abduction based on technicalities.
In as much as Nigerians celebrate this arrest, the method is swaying public opinion in their favour. This is against the backdrop that government spin doctors cited lawlessness and abuse of judicial due process as one of the reasons that led to the removal of Nuhu Ribadu as the EFCC boss. If this teething new EFCC boss Mrs. Farida Waziri, is going to operate like this in less than one month after appointment, Nigerians are worried that they will be presumed guilty until they can prove their innocence.
In compliance with the Criminal Procedure Act and Penal Code coupled with the Section 35-36 of the constitution, the EFCC is putting their acts in top gear to arraign Fani Kayode and Borishade within 48 hours. They are expected to appear in Federal High Court tomorrow.

Femi Fani Kayode Arrested By EFCC

The immediate past Minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani Kayode has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriation of Aviation Intervention Fund believed to be N19.5 billion Naira.
Also arrested is Fani Kayode’s predecessor Prof. Babalola Aborishade, whom Fani Kayode accused of forgery and spending N8.4billion Naira.
These revelations and consequent arrest by EFCC is coming at the heels of revelations at the on going Senate Committee on Aviation’s public hearing in Abuja. In a limp defence, the past minister of finance, Nenadi Usuman, said that against the 19.5 billion Naira being spread by the media, it was 13billion Naira that was released and 6 billion Naira sourced as loan.
Chief Kayode was drafted to the aviation ministry by the Obasanjo administration as a reward for his faithful defense of Obasanjo. Fani Kayode was the Special Adviser to president Obasanjo Fani Kayode was arrogant and abused any Nigerian that had a contrary view about how Obasanjo was ruining the country. Even Nigeria’s literary icons and men of wisdom were ridiculed by Fani Kayode. One cannot help but butt in that this arresting, is teaching Fani Kayode that power is ephemeral and one should be kind to those he meets on his way up, as they may remove the ladder.
Since the removal of Nuhu Ribadu as the chairman of EFCC, Obasanjo loyalists are having a rough day. Among these faithfuls, whose feathers have been ruffled are Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello (ex-president Obasanjo’s daughter), Kenny Martins ( Police Equipment Trust Fund)

EFCC Fingered in Dirty Car Deal

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has given a seven-day ultimatum to individuals, who benefited cars and money from the defunct Police Equipment Fund (PEF). According to the statement by the EFCC head of Media and Publicity Mr. Femi Babafemi,, any individual who fails to heed this ultimatum gives the commission no alternative but to effect their arrest and prosecution.
Meanwhile the chairman of the PEF, Chief Kenny Matins, speaking through his lawyer, said that EFCC benefited from the car and money bonanza by the PEF and queried why the EFCC should not return the cars and money she received from the PEF. Kenny Matins has stayed more than 48 hours in EFCC detention center without a charge being proffered against him.
In a swift reply, the EFCC maintained that she will not return the cars or refund the money as they are more interested in the individuals who received cars and other gifts and not on institutions that benefited. In the hay days of PEF, almost all the security organizations in Nigeria benefited one item or the other from PEF while the Nigeria Police Force remained under funded and her helicopter was declared missing.

Farida Waziri; EFCC Boss Commences Lawlessness

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdullahi Mustapha on June 16th berated the Attorney General and Minster of Justice Michael Andoaaka SAN and the new EFCC chairman Mrs. Farida Waziri over their evasion of service of writ of summons brought against them by the gadfly, Chief Gani Fawehinmi SAN.
The Judge outwardly angry at the attitude of the EFCC and the AGF, warned the EFCC counsel to “tell that woman, it is in her best interest to accept service. She is there today, somebody was there yesterday” The outburst was against the backdrop of a court bailiff’s narration on oath of his ordeal at attempts to serve both the EFCC and the AGF’s office.
Chief Gani had sued the president, the AGF, the EFCC challenging the appointment of Mrs. Waziri as the new EFCC boss. Gani contends that the president erred and abused the constitution by appointing and forwarding Mrs. Waziri’s name to the Senate for confirmation as the EFCC Chairman without first clarifying the status of Nuhu Ribadu.
Nuhu Ribadu, the former EFCC Chairman was unceremoniously and in a shrouded circumstances sent on study leave at NIPSS. The government at that time, speaking through the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, said Ribadu was not being removed or retired but needed the NIPSS exposure to enable him serve EFCC and the nation more.
In a related development, there has been massive redeployment of key EFCC staff. Lamode who was holding brief for Ribadu has been posted to head a Police command in Bauchi state. Some other operatives have been posted out, to give the new chairman enough room to operate without the shadows of Ribadu. This is a prudent military strategy although watchers of the fight against corruption are shouting blue murder, contending that the move is to whittle down the tempo of the fight against corruption.
Media reports are awash with sensational reports of Mrs. Waziri, signing bail bond for Senator Akume when he was quizzed by the EFCC. It is also reported that the gang of corrupt ex-governors headed by James Ibori of Delta State, arm twisted President Yar’Adua to appoint Mrs. Waziri, so as to find a rule of law modus operandi to frustrate their trial. These ex-governors contributed massively towards the electioneering campaign of PDP and Yar’Adua.

Senator Obasanjo Bello granted bail

OCI · Leave a Comment
This wednesday, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Bello was granted bail by the court that earlier on Monday remanded her in police custody.
The bail bond posted was to the tune of N10m ( Ten million Naira ) the same amount, she allegedly collected from the embattled Health Minister (Ministry) as Chairman of Senate committe on Health.
There are no suprises, the bail was expected. We can now sit back and enjoy the circus as it has formally opened, I doubt if it will be worth my two kobo. What do you think?
