Saddam Sentenced to Hang

November 5, 2006 by User ImageOCI

Iraqi strong man Saddam Hussein and his co-defendants was convicted a few minutes ago. Saddam got the ultimate sentence “to hang” and his co-defendants recieved various terms from death to lives and years in prison for some.

It will be recalled that this trial has spanned over nine months with over thirty-nine court sessions. The verdict today have been recieved with mixed reactions from various quarters in the Iraqi conflict. There are claims in certain quarters that it is a “farce” while others feel justice has been done.

The days ahead, can best be described as uncertain; within Iraq their is the fear that violence may escalate. Should this happen, it can be argued that the whole insurgence is built around him. Contrarily, should things not go out of hand in Iraq then it can be concluded that there is more o the reason behind the insurgence than the person of Saddam.

How things will play out in Iraq in the days ahead will be determined by the resolution of the government and people of Iraq to go beyond one person and work towards a common destiny. To make their country safe again.

The wider implication of today’s judgement though subject to appeal, is bound to send the right signal to leaders, men and women that have arrogated power to themselves to use to acheive selfish means, to beware. Pervasion of justice is temporal, in the end justice prevails.

Power as obtained, negotiated or forcefully acquired should rather be used to enhance the quality of the peoples’ lives than destroy it. Let us make the world better and safer, Let us rise against all forms of tyranny and let justice be taken to the door-steps of the guilty without hesitation.

Thus, should you cherish the freedom you enjoy due to the fact that you live in a free-world, and you feel others have that same right but are being denied it; and you refuse to act because you think you cannot do anything. This presumption of incapacity to act is misguided; hence, to help make this world a better and safer place deviod of tyrants and evils rulers, you need to be heard. To be heard, you need a voice; here is your voice in here.Let your post, comments and responses do the talking, your involvement through participation will help every man, woman and child in all the oppressed corners of this world to a giant step towards their walk to freedom.
