Evan Enwerem, ex-Senate President Dies

Past Senate President and former Executive Governor of Imo State, Evan Enwerem is dead. He was aged 72.

The shock of his death has been reverberating through his home state of Imo and beyond. Colleagues and acquaintances have been reacting to his sudden demise thus;

Senate President David Mark said he received it with shock.

He said: “As a former civilian governor of Imo State, Enwerem laid a solid foundation for democratic governance in Nigeria and also contributed selflessly in the struggle for the enthronement of democracy in our land.

“Enwerem was not just an epitome of humility, he dedicated his life for the service of humanity. We cannot forget in a hurry that Enwerem as president of the Senate in 1999 set the machinery in motion on which the president of the senate stands.”

The late politician was born on October 29 ,1935 in Atta, Imo State and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1964, having qualified as barrister at law in England in I963.

Enwerem was the governor of Imo State between 1991 and 1993. He was the senate president from June 4 to November 18, 1999…… Business Day

Mature as he was popularly known in Imo State will be greatly missed.
