The World’s Billionaires
#334 Aliko Dangote
Aliko Dangote has finally made us proud by being the first Nigerian to genuinely make it to the authouritative forbes list for 2008.
Aliko Dangote remains a true testament of what hardwork and dedication can bring. It may not be tasteful to a lot of people out there what this achievement entails due to certain prejudices they hold against him. However, you may want to look at it; whether he recieved favour from government or not he has keep the favours within and not away.
He has earned my respect as a foremost Nigerian that should be encouraged to do more and I wish also to call on other to be like him and use their wealth to creat more wealth for Nigerians and not citizen of foreign banks where they stash their money away.
Forbes reports that Dangote is worth $3.3 Billion and he is the 334 richest man in the world.
Here is the complete Forbes’ Billionaire List, Aliko Dangote makes it on page 14

Even if one disagrees with others, respect for each other’s opinions is still warranted. It is with that in mind that I disagree with the assertion that Mr. Dangote genuinely made his billions IN NIGERIA through hard work. There is no way anyone can, business-wise, associate intimately with the likes of Babagida, Abacha, and Obasanjo and genuinely make BILLIONS through hard work, in the Nigerian environment. Let’s just say he (Dangote) is not alone in accumulating billions but only his are currently advertized, from Nigeria.
However, in giving the devil his worth, I commend Malam Dangote for not just stashing the money abroad, unlike many of his close associates in the government, past and present. That is a credit to him. Again, considering from where he hails from, he needs to remember that charity begins at the local home. It this area , someone with that amount of wealth can do much better. Even now, it is not too late. And then, it is always better late than never.
Typical Nigerian Reaction! Instead of looking at a glass half full you are looking at it half empty. You probably would have prefered it if there was no Nigerian on the list at all. Somehow I don’t see Forbes including a dodgy theif on their rich list. You guys are always too negative and very quick judge . As a proud positive thinking Nigerian I see this as a positive progress and i’m confident that this would only pave way to other Nigerians/Africans to make it to the list. And as for what he does with his money I’m sure its non of our business. Besides Dangote is well known for making large donation to the less previledge. As well as sending truck loads of goods to poverty stricken countries like Niger. And as we would say in hausa ” Allah ya kara aziki”.
Fellow Nigerians, I am a nigerian in Diasporal. I have always followed Forbes rich list and happy that Aliko finally made it even though we can all argue that the bigger chunck of his wealth resulted from his sycophantic gesture towards our past governments.
Ladies and gentlement, let me bring this to your attention or perhaps refresh your memories on the rich list list from Russia and India. Most of the billionaires from these two countries especially Russia made 100% of thier fortune the same way Dangote has done. Roman and the former Yukos chairman.
I am really proud of the man’s initiatives in investing most of his wealth in Nigeria and let us all be happy for him…….
