Abia State Governor Escapes Death

In a déjà vu, the attack on Delta State Governor was relived yesterday in Abia, when the convoy of the state governor, Theodore Oji, was riddled with bullets by men believed to be armed robbers. The incident happened around Ugwunabor in Ukwa LGA on Port Harcourt Aba Express Road at about 7: 30 am.
Unfortunately, the governor was not in any of the seven cars on the convoy, as the convoy was going to Port Harcourt Airport to receive the governor who flew in from an overseas trip. 2 jeeps were snatched by the robbers, with one conductor confirmed dead and an undisclosed number of the governor’s security detail were injured.
Reacting from the government house in Umuahia, the governor told journalists that the oppositions in the April 14th 2007 Election were after him and that the attack was not an armed robbery. Contrary to the governor’s insistence on assassination theory, an eye witness said that the robbers have been robbing before the convoy of the governor ran into them and the robbers, not wanting to be perceived as lily livered, continued the operations and did not spare the governor’s convoy that was nosing out of the order established by the robbers.
Earlier last month, the governor of Delta State’s convoy suffered the same fate. His advance security detail were on their way to attend J.J.Okocha’s testimonial march, when the attach took place. After the attack, we at whichwaynigeria opined that that attack on Emmanuel Uduaghan will not be the end of such attacks on the governors rather; it was the beginning, as armed robbers are now identifying the true thieves in the community. These robbers are often political touts used and discarded after being armed to rig elections.
In as much as I have no sympathy for PDP, the governor of Abia State, should not shy away from the unemployment rate in Abia, which breeds armed robbery. This I am attacked by the opposition or the opposition wants to assassinate me, is a worn out excuse by political office holders who have nothing to offer their people. The PPA, is toeing the line of their founder Oji Uzo Kalu, who at every opportunity during the “war” of words with Obasanjo, shouts that his life is in danger. Before this “it is an assassination attempt” by Theodore Oji, it was the PPA governor in Imo State that cried wolf that the opposition in Imo State were after his life.
In Abia, the Tribunal has ruled in favour of the PDP. Going by election tribunal ruling at the Court of Appeal, PDP has no need to resort to armed struggle to claim a mandate that if the worst comes to it, they will get a judicial blessing.
The Inspector General of Police, should examine this claim by Abia State Governor and thoroughly scrutinize his security details to see if these attack was not orchestrated to “weep up” sympathy for the governor ahead of the Court of Appeal ruling on his nullified election.
