12-year old Nigerian is a certified Java Programmer

June 25, 2007 by User ImageOCI

This news broke about two months ago, last April precisely.

It may no longer be news to most people that heard the news when it initially hit the headlines. Ask for me, it is re-assuring to know that despite the difficulties we have as a people and a nation coupled with the dilapidation that has become the bane of education in Nigeria; there remains a beacon of flashing light beyond the tunnel.

I accidentally came across the news while searching for information online. Honestly, I missed the news when it first broke; as I traced it backwards I was elated to discover that Guardian carried the news earlier. However, my source was Javalobby, their source in turn was Nigeria-German Business Group. In spite of the message and the messengers, my happiness is that given the same time and opportunity; we can go places and even do better than our avowed competitors.

It has become imperative that we as a nation can no longer ignore the important role Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can play in lifting us above the grinding under-development that has enveloped us. It is also Heart-warming to note that the NITDA Bill has been passed into NITDA Act by the National Assembly; thus paving the way for the development of our IT (Information Technology) and allied Infrastructure. It is worthy to note the the NITDA (National Information Technology Development Agency) has been at the fore-front of promoting and implementing an IT Policy for the country since its formal launch in 2004.

When the resultant law becomes operational , and the attendant developments that accompanies it starts springing up; we are bound to have a lot more Allwell Worgu’s setting and breaking records.

The time to act is now, we as a nation cannot afford to miss this information age revolution that is setting; if we missed the other revolutions in the past ages, I do not think we have any excuses to miss this one. Should we do posterity will not be fair in judging us.

Thanks for your contributions. I suppose the point was made for the Java programmer; but went on to talk about the imperatives of the government of Nigeria to taking advantage of the game-changing Information and communication technologies advancements.
It is no doubt that this will help improve the lot of Nigeria and its people.
